Dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a type of x-ray that is used when regular x-rays are not sufficient enough. Our office utilizes our CBCT to produce three dimensional images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan. In under a minute, the scan takes hundreds of pictures and stitches them together, creating a 3-D image that is 99.99% accurate when properly calibrated.
This procedure requires no special preparation and can be performed the same day as your initial appointment. These scans are not necessary for everyone, but prior to procedures such as a root canal, dental implant, or difficult extraction, it is a good idea to have one so the doctors can see exactly what is happening in the mouth.
