The Facts about Periodontal Disease:

The ADA has suggested that if you are experiencing any of the following it may be the early warning signs of Periodontal Disease:

  • Your gums are red, swollen or tender to the touch;
  • Your gums bleed when you brush your teeth;
  • Your gums are pulled away from teeth;
  • You have permanent teeth that may be loose or separating;
  • There is pus between your teeth and gums when gums are pressed on;
  • There is noticeable change in the way your teeth fit together when biting;
  • There are any changes in the way your partial dentures fit;
  • You are experiencing constant bad breath.

  • Root Planing – This treatment smoothes rough spots on the tooth root where germs can collect. This process assists in removing harmful bacteria which allows the gums to reattach to the teeth;
  • Minor Surgical Procedures - In some severe cases there are minor surgical procedures that can also be performed to remove excessive gum tissue and provide a new and healthier shape to the gums;
  • Antibiotics - In some cases antibiotics can be prescribed for treatment of the inflammation the gums;
