A dental implant is often the best choice to replace a single missing tooth. It is a synthetic post that is placed in the bone to replace the root structure of a natural tooth. Implants are typically made from medical-grade titanium, which is the same material used for orthopedic surgeries like hip and knee replacements.
When treatment planning for an implant, the first visit is normally an evaluation where Dr. Katie Tigani will assess the quality and quantity of bone in the area - a CBCT 3D scan is often required to do this. If the area is adequate, implant placement would be the next step; however, bone augmentation or grafting is sometimes necessary before an implant can be placed. Implant placement normally lasts one hour and you can even return to work afterwards if necessary! Local anesthetic and pain medication will be provided, but most patients feel little to no pain in the healing process. The bone takes 4-6 months on average to integrate with the implant before a tooth can be placed on top.
Dr. Tigani has placed hundreds of implants and has gone through the most vigorous training offered in the area. If you have any questions, call the office today to schedule an appointment.
